Design Stage Explained

In addition to our standard approval cycles, within Renaissance Job Management, we have a flag to indicate whether the production of pages has progressed enough for high resolution PDFs to be created or if the elements of pages and their design are still being finalised.

This flag is called 'Design Stage' and is automatically set when 'Sticky Boards' are published within the system or if an Artworker or Designer has uploaded PDFs into our Design Stage production workflow.

As and when high resolution PDFs are created, the Design Stage flag is automatically disabled.
If after a high-resolution PDF has been created, a PDF is uploaded into our Design Stage production workflow the Design Stage flag will set enabled again, however it's important to note that once a high-resolution PDF has been created for a page or spread, the publishing of a Sticky Board PDF will no longer work.

This is a built-in protection mechanism within the system to protect the integrity of the high-resolution PDFs that have already been created and is in place, because users with no print production experience may have the ability to create and publish Sticky Boards (and rightly so), however the ability to upload PDFs into our production systems is normally only enabled for print savvy users.

Design Stage = Yes:

Pages with Design Stage set to yes, so the PDFs have been created by Sticky Boards being published or the Artworker or Designer has uploaded PDFs into our Design Stage production workflow

Design Stage = No:

Pages with Design Stage set to no, so high-resolution PDFs have been created and published Sticky Boards will not overwrite them

Summary:

  • Publishing a Sticky Board sets the 'Design Stage' flag to yes
  • Uploading a PDF into our Design Stage production workflow also sets the 'Design Stage' flag to yes
  • When a high-resolution PDF is created the 'Design Stage' flag to no
  • Once a high-resolution PDF has been created, publishing a Sticky Board will no longer set 'Design Stage' flag to yes
  • Once a high-resolution PDF has been created, the only way for 'Design Stage' flag to get set to yes is to upload a PDF into our Design Stage production workflow
