The Product Database is a separate section of Renaissance that stores products with their associated text and image attributes.
Following the principle of store once, use many times, the Renaissance Product Database acts as a central repository for all your product data, meaning that no matter how many times a product appears in multiple publications, the product information is correct.
This eliminates costly errors and lets your designers focus on the design and not have the laborious, potentially error prone task of copying and pasting content from spreadsheets to build their pages.
Text
Text attributes are typically product descriptions for catalogue or web, product dimensions or available sizes, plus price information. There is no limit to the amount of attributes a product can have and their display can be controlled for each type of product, so you won't be a 'collar' attribute for a pair of trousers.
Text attributes can be entered manually in the system, imported from spreadsheets or pushed into the product database from third party systems using the Renaissance API.
Images
A product can also have an unlimited amount of images associated with it including logos and lifestyle images that feature more than one product.
Images can be uploaded manually into the system and linked to products, imported as a bulk import or automatically linked to products as they are approved for use in a production workflow.
Images can also be stored in categories, such Spring Summer 2016 for easy reference as well as being linked to products.
Page Build
Once your products, text and images are in the system they can be grouped into 'Panels'.
A 'Panel' can then be exported and used by the Renaissance plugin for Adobe InDesign, which allows the text and images for products to be brought onto the page already styled, leaving the artworker to fine tune the design.
Products can also have page numbers set as attributes, which means that the text and images will be brought onto the correct page of the catalogue automatically. This also facilitates the automated page build of catalogues.
Changed Content in the Database
If the text content changes in the database (new pricing for example), the artworker is warned and can update their document with the changes via the Renaissance plugin, meaning that the page is always in sync with the database.
Last minute changes in the document
If urgent, last minute changes are made to the copy in the document, those changes can be sent back to the database direct from the InDesign document via the Renaissance plugin, meaning that the database is correct for the next production.
